Match Report for Southern Michigan Pneumatics Field Target 20 May 2017
" Before the storm…" Due to a mid-day rain forecast, we arrived plenty early to get the targets placed. The lanes looked great from a fresh mowing by John Ayres. Today was the inauguration of the zombie head target, stuck high on a pole. By mid-day he suffered from many brain shots…poor zombie. (We have named him "Cromwell"! ) Eleven shooters started the course, despite the weatherman. Unfortunately two had to drop out due to equipment problems, but they spent good time setting up a new gun/scope combo for the next match. A wide mix of talent was on the course - from grizzled veterans to first time newbies. Mark Guthaus got the newcomer award - this was the first time he shot a field target course…a diamond in the rough. In addition, "Ole Twentycal" actually shot his first full F.T. match. After spending over 10 years running matches and catering events Mark King has taken over as match director and Chris actually got to shoot a whole match! Ten lanes, three targets per lane, sixty shots in the match. Lots of high uneven wind from all directions affected everybody. The temperature was in the mid to upper fifties, and a light jacket was appreciated. Fortunately the rain did not appear until after everybody finished and the targets were picked up. The sun was even a problem for a short time. A few ‘funny’ targets were discovered and quickly replaced. Mark King was acting as ambassador to our sport and doing some training on rules and protocol. Thanks to all for helping set up and take down the course before the rain! Hope to see everyone at the next field target match on June 17. Here now are some photos of the group and the facilities: John and Cindy start the course with high hopes!
